This month we’re all talking about how to incorporate our new pastes and coordinating products to texturize your artwork. I’ve chosen to feature the Opaque Matte texture paste in my Christmas card. Before you take a look, bear in mind that I am a newbie (with a capital N) to the texture paste scene!
Before beginning to use the texture paste, I mixed 8 drops from our Gold Shimmer Brush into the water in one of our misting pens. After applying the texture paste to the stencil, but before removing the stencil from the card stock, I lightly sprayed over all of the stars. It’s really hard to get it to show up in the picture, but it’s quite lovely!
I discovered a few things:
The card stock will warp a bit after applying the texture paste (even without spraying). Leaving it taped to the work surface until it dries, helps a bit. Once it was completely dry I adhered it to an extra piece of cardstock, using LOTS of adhesive.
If you are using a stencil that has large open spaces, it’s better to use a longer palette knife. You can see on many of the stars that I did not get it even all the way across.
Thank you so much for stopping by! Before heading to the next page, I’d love to hear from you! You can leave a comment at the bottom of this post. Each month we share with you a different technique, featuring Close To My Heart products. This month 13 of us are showcasing “Sewing”.

This month we’re all talking about how to make use of sewing, stitching or faux-stitching in your paper crafting. I’ve chosen to make cards which feature two of the new CTMH Thin Cut collections: Thin Cuts-Shaker Window & Confetti and Decorative Borders. Here is the first project, which uses the large, stitched & scalloped border Thin Cut out of the Decorative Borders collection. I have a shaky hand when it comes to drawing stitching, and often I smudge it while I’m working! Using these faux-stitching Thin Cuts solves both of those problems.
I haven’t had a chance yet to work with the Hello Pumpkin collection, so I couldn’t resist using these fun little smiling pumpkins. They were cut out from a half sheet of B & T Duos paper, using the pumpkin-shaped Thin Cut from the Hello Pumpkin Cardmaking Stamp & Thin Cuts. After cutting them out, I stacked them on a hill made from a different sheet of B & T Duos paper in the collection. The sentiment “Let the Witching hour begin.” is cut from one of the Picture My Life cards included in the collection, with just a hint of Nectarine polka dots peeking out from behind. To complete the card, I used a Lagoon-coloured banner from the Hello Pumpkin Complements and one of the stars from the Hello Pumpkin Shapes.
In my second card I made use of the new Shaker Window & Confetti Thin Cuts. The versatility of this collection really shines through here! As you can see, there are no shaker windows in this card, however, the large size of the outside, stitched circle Thin Cut can be useful for adding layers and dimension to any project. And so speedy. I cut both of the stitched circles at the same time!
For inspiration here, I reached for two of CTMH’s “How To” books. In the Make It From Your Heart Vol. 4 I chose Pattern 17 as the base for my design. I knew that I wanted to use the little pumpkin you see at the front of the card (cut from a PML card) which is in one of our new colours, Nectarine. Next I went to our brand new “Love of Colour” to choose which colours to combine. As you can see the Nectarine, Fern & Sapphire are definitely a winning combination! I finished off my card with a few pieces from the Hello Pumpkin Complements.
Thank you so much for stopping by! Before heading to the next page, please consider saying hello or leaving me a comment to let me know what you think of the technique or the cards. I always love hearing from you. After that, keep following the links in each post and check out what we have to share with you. I hope you enjoy your time with us, see some cool projects and get some terrific tips and ideas!
Each month we share with you a different technique, featuring Close To My Heart products. This month 11 of us are showcasing “Purposeful Plastic”.

This month we’re all talking about how to make use of plastic in your paper crafting. I’ve chosen to feature three “flip flaps” in my one-page layout about birds and ducks in our neighbourhood. Flip flaps come in many different sizes and are perfect for adding photos to your layouts without having to create another layout. To use them you just slide photos or other artwork into the pocket and use the adhesive strip to attach. Here’s a close up look:
And here is the project that I completed to show you flip flaps in action. I always like to include some sort of cue that lets you know to look for something different. This time I used gold gems as my cue for the flip flaps. See if you can spot them!
If you found all three of the 3 x 3″ flip flaps down the centre of the layout, you’re absolutely right! I have had the honour of discovering many, many birds and ducks in our neighbourhood and I wanted to be able to use as many different types as possible. This layout design allowed me to do that. Look more closely at how I made use of the flip flaps:
I wanted to be able to tell a story about a few of these birds, so I picked three interesting ones and adhered them down the centre of the layout directly onto the layout/photo mat. I attached the flip flap right to the back of the photo matting, so it was completely hidden. Then I wrote the story above each picture so it would be hidden from sight unless you purposefully went looking.
I saw a card created using these three colours and knew that I had to try using them together too. I think they work so well together!
If you did not want to do any hidden journaling, you could use those spaces for even more photos.
Thank you so much for stopping by! Before heading to the next page, please consider leaving me a comment to let me know what you think of the technique or the layout. I always love hearing from you. After that, keep following the links in each post and check out what we have to share with you. I hope you enjoy your time with us, see some cool projects and get some terrific tips and ideas!
