For this month’s layout, I went to the Close To My Heart Reflections Scrapbooking Program. I just love the endless possibilities! I chose the Bottom Border – Footnotes (pg. 31) for the left side, and then matched the coordinating pattern, Quartet – Pinwheel (pg. 107) for the right side. The Pinwheel design is one of my favourites. There are so many ways you can go and it is always eye-catching when it’s done!
This time, I let the paper pick the photos!! When I went looking for photos that would be well suited to this pack’s “seaside” theme, it didn’t take me long to realize that I just had too many photos from which to pick. So I set out my choice of papers and then started laying down photos. It was amazing how well this worked! As I moved through my pile of photos from our Nova Scotia trip in 2009, the right pics just sort of jumped out at me. Once I had a selection of photos, I looked through them for a theme, and picked out all of the photos from our day at Peggy’s Cove. Now all that’s left is for me to add my journaling. If you have never tried this pairing technique, the next time you are not sure which way to go with your photos, let the paper do the deciding!!
For the date, I used the Framework stamp set in black on B & T paper. The “Peggy’s Cove” is stamped in black, using the Urban Alphabet stamp set, and then fussy cut. I used my Xyron sticker maker to adhere the letters to the layout. The shells were coloured using our Shin Han Touch Twin markers. The three small photos at the top of the left page are actually just little pieces cut out of bigger photos that I wasn’t going to be using on my layout. My square punch worked great for this! I double-matted quite a few of the photos this time, just because I wanted to pick up the different colours. The little starfish in the top left corner of the bench picture are the centres of the sand dollars. Waste not, want not! You can’t really tell in the photos, but I used dimensionals to pop up some of the photos, the journaling and some of the embellishments, just to add a bit of depth. Finally, I added some inking on just a few pieces for a bit more visual interest and softness.
